Through yin yoga, an anatomy course, or personal injury and recovery experience, you may have learned about fascia and connective tissue. Connective tissue is the scaffolding or framework for the structure of the body. It connects muscles, nerves, bones, and organs helping to stabilize and support how our body moves and works internally. This tissue also transfers energy when we move, absorbs tension, helps with communication and assists fluid movement in the body.
Myofascial Release targets this fascial tissue. In this workshop, you will explore self-massage techniques using tools like rounds or tennis balls, blocks, and foam rollers as a self-care practice. You will soothe sore muscles and increase body awareness using props, visualization, and breathwork. Techniques can complement a yoga practice by helping with range of motion, injuries, adhesions, tension, muscle recovery (for athletes), or muscle function.
The aim of this event:
- Tune into the body, increase awareness of what is happening inside – Create more glide between layers of tissue, release adhesions – Restore the elasticity potential of muscles
- Increase circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid
- Hydrate tissues
- Lay down orderly collagen fibers for increased strength of connective tissue – Help restore the neuromuscular connection – mind-body communication
